About Us

The Geek Foundation is a local non-profit that teaches free computer programming and maker tech classes like web development, robotics, and video game development with a focus on increasing diversity in the tech industry.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our organization is growing and has several opportunities available for volunteer positions including volunteer educators for our kids and adult classes, as well as marketing and fundraising volunteers. Our classes are offered at various locations like the local libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs, schools, and Discovery Center.

Board of Directors

We are looking for new board members with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Treasurer / accounting
  • Fundraising
  • Nonprofit administration
  • Legal


Board members have the following responsibilities:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, bylaws, programs, and needs.
  • Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Review agenda prior to board meetings and ask questions ahead of time.
  • Attend or volunteer for at least one TGF class and at least one TGF fundraising event (if applicable).
  • Serve as an ambassador to the organization by leveraging your connections to network and seeking others who would make good additions to the board and committees.
  • Contribute financially to the organization either by donating or by bringing new donors.
  • Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.

Programs Committee Member

Would you like to teach coding, IT, or maker classes to kids or adults? This committee is perfect for you! Programs committee member are expected to volunteer at events, attend meetings, and implement the decisions of the Programs Committee.


Programs committee members have the following responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Programs Committee meetings.
  • Volunteer for agreed upon programs.
  • Pitch new ideas for programs.
  • Offer your talents and connections to further the organization’s efforts, as well as seeking others who would make good additions to the committee.
  • Report any issues that could hinder success to the committee lead.
  • Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.

Marketing Committee Lead

The marketing committee lead is expected to ensure the organization is being effectively promoted through all marketing outlets.


The marketing committee lead has the following responsibilities:

  • Delegate content creation in the following areas: social media posts, monthly program newsletter, monthly blog post, volunteer recruitment emails
  • Schedule and post the following after receiving approval from the chairperson: social media posts, monthly program newsletter, monthly blog post, volunteer recruitment emails
  • Add public programs to the website and as events on the TGF Facebook page.
  • Propose paid social media posts to the chairperson and publish when approved.
  • Track social and website metrics and prepare monthly report for the chairperson.
  • Report any issues that could hinder success to the chairperson.
  • Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.

Marketing Committee Member

Marketing committee member are expected to help generate content for all marketing outlets.


Marketing committee members have the following responsibilities:

  • Design and write marketing materials as needed.
  • Design and write social media posts as needed.
  • Design and write blog posts as needed.
  • Design and write email newsletters for programs, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment as needed.
  • Assist committee lead in any other duties such as suggesting paid posts and tracking and reporting metrics.
  • Report any issues that could hinder success to the committee lead.
  • Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.

Fundraising Committee Lead

The fundraising committee lead is expected to oversee fundraising efforts for The Geek Foundation.


The fundraising committee lead has the following responsibilities:

  • Research new fundraising opportunities (e.g. grants, sponsors, events).
  • Create and implement regular, small fundraising campaigns with approval from the president (e.g. a Facebook fundraiser to raise money for laptops).
  • Regularly check in with current and past sponsors.
  • Report fundraising efforts to the treasurer and the president monthly.
  • Report any issues that could hinder success to the president.
  • Help promote TGF by sharing the organization’s posts across your social media outlets.

Fundraising Committee Member

Fundraising committee members are expected to assist in fundraising efforts for The Geek Foundation.


Fundraising committee members have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist committee lead with researching new fundraising opportunities (e.g. grants, sponsors, events).
